Guess the plot: Tron

December 14th, 2010

So, I’m starting a new theme, called guess the plot.  I do this with new TV shows and new movies.  Normally, I do it in a mocking way, because I don’t believe that the show is going to have any depth.  If you know me (and if you are reading this, you are probably my mom so you should) I am very critical of…most things.  But I am completely baffled by Tron.

Tron Legacy Trailer

I’m psyched to see it.  This was the first movie I was aloud to see without my parents.  It was about video games, and going into computers and hacking.  Pretty much what my life has become.  I want this movie to be good, but if I gush on like a fan boy, I don’t think that would make a very interesting blog.  So without further adieu, my prediction for the plot of Tron:

So The Dude, spending a late night hitting the bong, mistakes the digitizer and gets sucked into the matrix.  At first he spends all his time smokin’ others at light cycle, cuz if you are going to play one of the Tron games, who wants to play the stupid spider one.  Unless they are playin’ Intellivision’s Tron Deadly Discs cuz that game was the best Tron game.  But I’m going to assume he is playing light cycles, cuz his son drives a motorcycle around town.  Yeah, even my mom (yeah I know you are still reading this) can tell that the son riding around the city on his motorcycle is going to lead him to getting sucked into the matrix and ending up on “the grid” in a light cycle duel.  And I bet he wins.  Shocker.

It’s clear that the Dude is in the matrix, but one has to ask, is he trapped?  Or is he manipulating the matrix and now feels its time to ask his son to join him?  Yeah, its the latter.  But the son doesn’t want to take the offer.  The Dude makes a passionate plea, explaining that they no longer really play light cycle all day but instead play Guitar Hero.  And at first, the Dude was really good, because the first few Guitar Heroes were classic rock, but now they are coming out with stuff the Dude has never heard of and they keep threatening to switch over to DJ Hero.  So the Dude needs his son’s help.

Well the son doesn’t want to play DJ Hero either, I mean, seriously, who does?  But he’s found out that a glowing Olivia Wilde with a Dutch boy haircut is just what he needs to crave his latent homosexual fancies without actually being gay.  Crushed by his son’s unwillingness to help, the Dude chases his son and Olivia through lightbright land.  Of course the son and Olivia escape and the Dude remains trapped in the matrix.  The son is asked by Original Tron guy if he found his father and the son explains, he found nothing, his father is rezzed.

Walking dead season 1 thoughts

December 8th, 2010

So my wife and I just finished watching walking dead season 1. She loved it. I, on the other hand found it to be lacking. The characters, while well acted, never gave me an opportunity to really like them. I didn’t get a chance to know them. I found myself longing for some lost style flash backs. Instead I got to many characters to fast and within 3 of the final episodes they come with reasons to thin the herd by about ten people, most not even eaten by zombies.

I like post apocalyptic dramas. I hope they stick to it. But what intrigued me about a zombie tv series was the social and psychological drama of dealing with life after a zombie apocalypse. And I don’t fel that walking dead has reached it’s potential.
